梁詠琪 Gigi Leung as 詠琪 Gigi
劉青雲 Sean Lau as 青雲 Sean
古天樂 Louis Koo as 天樂 Louis
應采兒 Cherrie Ying as 采兒 Cherrie
王天林 Wong Tin Lam as 天叔 Tin

 Story
Andy is an extremely compulsive Mahjong player. Thrown out of the house by his mother and ignored by his more academically gifted and successful younger brother, Louis, he had a hard time running away from debt collectors until one day he met a young girl named Gigi after a run-in with some of the debt collectors' men. Gigi started out as a thief, but because she fell for him and gave him immense luck, Andy gained great success with his extreme good luck in mahjong games and became very rich. However he refused to marry Gigi because she, though a nice woman when with him, was in reality quite a sore loser who threw temper tantrums while on the verge of losing mahjong games. She could not understand that he couldn't stand the way she behaved. As Andy said, her behaviour could be revealed by just playing a game of mahjong where when she lost, she would throw the tables. He promised her that he would marry her if she could play a game of mahjong without such a bad temper. She couldn't and so he couldn't marry her though he loved her. In the meantime, Andy found his mother who was now suffering from Alzheimer's disease and his brother who faced bankruptcy and moved in with Andy, who coincidentally lived in a bungalow. Not wanting to lose out in finding a job, Louis who had excellent luck in Mahjong but zero skill, was conned out of all his money and even his clothes by a skilled, yet devious mahjong player, Sean. But being a kind hearted simpleton, Cherrie on the con team, fell for him and decided to mend her ways.

In the meantime, Gigi who was very disappointed with Andy's refusal to marry her, went with the bad crowd, in the form of mahjong con men led by Lau Ching-wan. Andy who was cursed by Gigi lost his winning streak and instead found a living as a taxi driver and moved into public housing. Being ever optimistic, he did not complain. However, not wanting Gigi to fall into the con men's trap, he played a game of mahjong with Sean and lost terribly. But Gigi was touched by his actions and went back to him, promising she will return a better woman. But before she left, she gave Andy a blessing and from there on, Andy's winning streak came back. Louis who had created a mahjong computer game with his new girlfriend, Cherrie, received word that there would be a Mahjong tournament sponsored by his game. The ever optimistic Andy decided to join the contest which saw him competing against Sean. Before the tournament began, he discovered that Gigi had returned to her old job as a stewardess and gave him a lot of good fortune items from around the world. During the tournament, Andy was able to secure a seat in the final match which also included Sean, Sean's father and a henchman. Andy easily won the match but was then confronted by Sean to have a rematch. Andy agreed and the two of them squared off. Before the match could end, Andy gave up and gave the prize to Sean. Sean, surprised at what had happened, decided to look at Andy's hand, which was a major breakthrough set. Sean realized all his mistakes and decided to learn from Andy. Andy then regained all his money and started a Mahjong school by the sea. He eventually got married with Gigi.

L² Comment:
No matter how many times I rewatch this movie, i just feel stupid. But this year, I changed my mind. Referring back Gigi Leung's filmography, she has make a big change on the way she perform in the movie. Beside of willing to drive her way into a character that is a bit "not her style" during that time, this character challenged her in expanding her way to different styles of acting. Beside that, she's the one who is mainly bringing out the comedy part throughout the whole movie, so this 4.5 score goes to her :) Looking at other actor like Sean Lau & Louis Koo, I feel like puking at them in this movie seriously... while Cherrie all these while never bring any glorious moment to any of her movie, the scene where she smoke is also sickening, she's so fake! In another hand, Andy Lau did not bring any big surprise and Bonnie Wong's scenes are too little for her to shine~

Wow, I never know that the sequel is so much better than the first movie. The whole storyline is richer & exciting when another 2 characters (Yang & Ken) was added in; but in the same time the character of Kevin has become a supporting role instead of the lead role like the first movie.

Throughout the movie, not only I can feel the sadness, disappointment, jealousy that presented by these actors & actresses... I feel that Louis Koo finally improve his acting skills after so many years acting in the same kind of characters in so many movies. Bravo to him.

Not sure whether in future the production house will be doing the same kind of story about single man & lady or not... but definitely the characters will be change, just hope that they will maintain some of these actors & actresses in the new movie again...

Turn Left, Turn Right 向左走·向右走

Released Year: 2003
Directed by 杜琪峰 Johnnie To & 韦家辉 Wai Ka Fai

Casted by:
金城武 Takeshi Kaneshiro as 劉智康 John Liu
梁詠琪 Gigi Leung as 蔡嘉儀 Eve Choi
陳之財 Edmund Chen as 胡醫生 Dr Hu
關穎 Terri Kwan as 小紅 Ruby
 Story:
The story tells of two people who live in buildings right next to each other, separated only by a wall, and are always near each other but can't seem to find one another.

John Liu is a violinist who works from job to job. During one of his gigs, he meets June, who offers to give him a ride home. However she flirts aggressively with John during the ride which frightens him. To get away from her he jumps out of her car and makes a run for his apartment building. The next day he sees her waiting for him on the left corner of his building which makes him avoid going to the left of his building.

Eve Choi is a translator for a book publishing company. Her job is to translate foreign books into Chinese. She is given the daunting task of translating a horror novel into Chinese. At night while translating the horror novel she gets frightened and thinks her home is haunted. The next day she notices a scary-looking tree to the right of her apartment building and, frightened, she refuses to go to the right of her building.

John and Eve meet by accident at the park fountain, when he helps her pick up her papers that have fallen into the fountain. They find out that they had met each other when they were younger at an amusement park, when both their schools had organized a field trip to the same place. Then, Eve had asked John for his telephone number, but the two never got in touch because she left her school bag on the train and lost John's phone number. The two laugh about the past and exchange phone numbers without asking for each other's name before parting quickly because of a coming rainstorm.

That night, both are happy and excited to have met each other again, but both also came down with the flu because of the earlier rainstorm. The flu medication John has on hand has expired and he decides not to take it. Eve is overjoyed and forgets to take her medication. The next day the two are devastated to find out that the phone numbers they had exchanged are unreadable due to the paper getting wet during the rainstorm. Both can only make out a few numbers and vainly call several phone numbers at random hoping to get through to one another.

One of the numbers they called is a restaurant that Ruby works at as a waitress and delivery person. Both John and Eve, ill and not wanting to leave their home because they're afraid that they would miss the other person's phone call, decides to order delivery from Ruby's restaurant. Ruby falls in love with John at first sight when she arrives at his home to make her delivery. Seeing the smudged pieces of paper on both John and Eve's table, Ruby soon finds out that the two are trying to find each other. To distract John from the apartment located in the next building Ruby tells him an old lady lives in that apartment.

John's and Eve's flu become so severe that they are both taken to the hospital, John by Ruby and Eve by an ambulance. They both meet Dr. Hu, but Dr. Hu happens to be a former University classmate of Eve's, who has a crush on her. He tells Eve that it must be fate that they met each other again and proceeds to check her into the hospital to get the best care possible, while discharging John from the hospital, changing his mind only when Ruby argues with him about how severe John's illness is. Both John and Eve give their home keys to Ruby and Dr. Hu to set up voicemail at their home in case the other person calls.

Once John and Eve are discharged from the hospital they find out that Dr. Hu and Ruby had literally moved into each of their apartments, but both make it clear that they are not interested in them since they already love someone else. Heartbroken, drunk and sobbing to each other Dr. Hu and Ruby decide to get together. Taking revenge on John and Eve for breaking their hearts, they send pictures to them showing how many places they had missed finding each other. John and Eve find Dr. Hu and Ruby to talk about the pictures they had received in the mail. Ruby gives Eve's phone number to John telling him it's her number to test if she was ever in his heart and Dr. Hu does the same to Eve, but they do not call.

John and Eve are frustrated about not being able to find each other and decide to take jobs abroad. On the day they are to leave Taiwan, an earthquake strikes, destroying the wall that separates their apartment. Both finally find each other.

L² Comment:
Well, I never realize this movie is almost 11 years ago~ Its good to watch back the old good movie with my idol in it. The whole storyline is not bad, a bit new but kinda predictable... Nothing much difference of both Andy & Sammi's performance in this movie, the surprise is to see the old hot movie star Jenny who is actually good in it.

I miss this kind of old classic HK movie which you will never be found in these few years from hong kong movie production. Its a sad things to mention though but i think everyone knows that this is a fact and which it is still not gets better~

Back to this movie, the storyline is cool and very hit during the 90s. Involving that time the 3 hot ladies to act together is not an easy job but Johnnie To has to power to do so :) Miss Anita~

L² Comment:
Its been such a long time didn't see Andy & Sammi appeared in the same movie which directed by Johnnie To. We can see that Sammi has improve a lot on her acting skill, not too over like last time. The storyline is ok, especially on the investigating part; however i think its a bit too draggy in certain part.

This is a very good romantic film by Johnie To & Wai Ka Fai. Seriously~ i never thought the storyline is so good, though got a bit like Ally McBeal. Love the parts when the both guys miss their chances to tackle the girl that they want. And when you thought Chi Yan will choose Sean in the end, boom~ she chose Kevin instead.

Its been a few times since Louis Koo & Daniel Wu works together, they are really giving us a good time in the cinema :)

林雪 Lam Suet as 何父 May's father
 李珊珊 SanSan-Lee as Susan
应采儿 Cherrie Ying as Tina

Story:
May Ho is a woman who inherits a vast fortune when her rich husband drowns in a scuba diving accident in the Caribbean. May told several joking lies to win her Stanford-educated, extremely successful husband, and his mother and sister are less than pleased when they find out, especially since they still harbor suspicions about her motives in marrying her husband after knowing him for only seven days. Nonetheless, the house, fortune, and a portion of the family fashion company are hers. Depressed, alone, and deeply missing her husband (feelings further exacerbated when her husband's dog, Whisky, dies), May goes on a binge of eating, drinking, smoking, watching television, and stealing from her own company's stores, culminating in a drunken car ride and near-fatal car accident.

May finds herself lying on the ground outside her car and thinks she is unscathed, until she approaches her vehicle and sees her bloody body in the driver's seat. Ken Wong appears to her and scares her into returning to her body, reviving herself.

Although she just barely evaded death, the left side of May's face is heavily injured. Later in the hospital, when she removes the gauze covering her left eye, she suddenly realizes she can see ghosts with that eye. She soon finds herself in the constant company and care of the ghost Ken, who claims that he is her former classmate who died when he was 13 in a typhoon out at sea. Throughout their escapades in the realm of the supernatural, May slowly develops a connection with him. However, despite all the ghosts she has encountered, her husband has never appeared to her and she deeply wants to see him, even for just an instant. Ken attempts to help her fulfill this wish before he crosses the Twilight Junction to be reincarnated though it initially appears she did not succeed. Only the spirit of her husband's late dog, Whisky, appears - seemingly close to Ken as if the canine knows him. Ken ask May for a final wish to hug her before he moves on, and in doing so she had to pretend that he was her husband.

Later, she goes to check on the restoration of her husband's vintage car and discovers the restorer resembles Ken, who turned to be the real Ken who did not really die when he was 13. She finally realize that the ghost who had been at her side all the while was actually her dead husband in disguise to prevent her from becoming too attached to him and to urge her to move on. She tries several ways to contact him after he had moved on, but all attempts were useless. Her ability to see ghosts had also disappeared. The film ends with a hint of a future romance between May and Ken.

L² Comment:
This is a very fun black comedy movie of Sammi + Sean. A brand new mix up of these 2 actors ever in the HK film industry. Both of them are superb and able to make us laugh all the ways in the movie. But who make me laugh the most? Of coz is the Fei Mui ghost !!! haha~ omg... she so damn funny... a film never bored to rewatch for a thousand time...
