Basic Instinct

Released Year: 1992
Directed by Paul Verhoeven

Casted by:
Michael Douglas as Detective Nick Curran
Sharon Stone as Catherine Tramell
Jeanne Tripplehorn as Dr. Beth Garner
George Dzundza as Gus
Story:
When rock star Johnny Boz, is brutally stabbed to death with an ice pick during sex, homicide detective Nick Curran is sent to investigate. The only suspect is Catherine Tramell, a crime novelist who was the last person to be seen with Boz on the night he died. Nick and his partner, Gus Moran, visit her Pacific Heights mansion, but they find only Catherine's lesbian lover, Roxy, who sends them to Catherine's Stinson Beach house. When they ask Catherine about her relationship with Boz, she shows little emotion at hearing he is dead. Nick and Gus, along with their superiors, discover that Catherine has written a novel about a former rock star who was killed in the same way as Boz. During questioning at police headquarters, Catherine engages in provocative behavior, refusing to extinguish her cigarette and uncrossing her legs under her short skirt, revealing she isn't wearing underwear.

Nick, who accidentally shot two people while high on cocaine, attends counseling sessions with police psychologist Dr. Beth Garner , with whom he has had an affair. After the interrogation, Nick goes to a bar with co-workers and is taunted by Lt. Marty Nilsen, an internal affairs investigator bent on making life difficult for Nick. When Beth arrives, Nick leaves with her, and they have rough sex in her apartment. Nick learns that Catherine has a troubled history: Her parents were killed when she was an adolescent, leaving her a fortune; one of her college counselors was also murdered with an ice pick; and that her fiancé, a boxer, was killed in the ring. He also discovers that Catherine makes a habit of befriending murderers, including a woman who stabbed her husband and children for no apparent reason.

During a visit to her house, Catherine taunts Nick with information that should be confidential. As a police psychologist, Beth is the only person with access to that information. When Nick confronts Beth, she admits that she handed his file to Nilsen, who threatened to discharge Nick if he couldn't evaluate him directly. An enraged Nick storms into Nilsen's office, assaults him, and accuses him of having sold Nick's file to Catherine. Nilsen then suspends Nick, who goes home, spending the evening drinking. Beth visits him, but after a heated argument, he throws her out. Later that night, Nilsen is found in his car, dead from a single gunshot to the head. Because of their recent altercation, Nick is the prime suspect.

A torrid affair between Nick and Catherine begins with the air of a cat-and-mouse game. Catherine explains that she will base her next novel's character—a cop falling for the wrong woman only to be killed by her—on Nick, while at the same time he declares his love for her and his unchanged intention to nail her for Boz's murder.

A jealous Roxy tries to run Nick over with Catherine's car, but after a car chase she is killed in a crash. Her death reveals that she too had a murderous past. After Roxy's death, Catherine seems genuinely saddened, and Nick begins to doubt her guilt. Catherine later reveals that a previous lesbian encounter at college went awry when the girl became obsessed with her. Nick identifies the girl as Beth Garner, who acknowledges the encounter, but claims it was Catherine who became obsessed.

When he visits Catherine, she explains that she has finished her book, and coldly ends the affair. Upset, Nick meets Gus, who has arranged to meet with Catherine's college roommate at a hotel. As Nick waits in the car, Gus enters the hotel and is stabbed in the elevator by a hooded figure, in the way described in Catherine's new book. Nick figures out there is trouble brewing and runs into the building, but he arrives too late to save Gus. Hearing the floor creak, Nick grabs Gus' gun and turns to find Beth standing in the hallway, explaining she received a message to meet Gus there. However, Nick suspects that she murdered Gus, and as Beth moves her hand in her pocket, he shoots her. With her final breath, Beth tells Nick that she loved him. A dejected Nick checks her pocket, only to find her keys. The police arrive, and in a staircase discover a blond wig, a SFPD raincoat, and an ice pick, the weapon used to murder Gus, concluding that Beth ditched the items when she heard Nick coming up. A search of Beth's apartment turns up the evidence needed to brand her as the killer of Boz, Gus, Nilsen, and presumably her own husband—the matching revolver, Catherine's novels, and photos chronicling the writer's life.

Nick returns to his apartment, where he is met by Catherine. She explains her reluctance to commit to him, but then the two make love. Afterward, the conversation turns toward their possible future as a couple. While talking, Nick turns his back on Catherine as she slowly reaches for something underneath the bed. She stops when Nick senses her stillness; he looks around with distrust in his eyes, and she throws her arms around him and the two resume making love as the camera slowly pans down to show what she was reaching for under the bed: an ice pick.

Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan

Released Year: 1982
Directed by Nicholas Meyer

Casted by:
William Shatner as James T. Kirk
Leonard Nimoy as Spock
Ricardo Montalbán portrays Khan Noonien Singh
Kirstie Alley as Saavik
Story:
The film opens with the Vulcan Lieutenant Saavik in command of the starship USS Enterprise. The vessel is on a rescue mission to save the crew of a damaged ship in the Neutral Zone along the border with Klingon space when it is attacked by Klingon cruisers and critically damaged. The "attack" is revealed to be a training exercise known as the "Kobayashi Maru"; a no-win scenario designed to test the character of Starfleet officers. Admiral James T. Kirk oversees the simulator session of Captain Spock's trainees.

The USS Reliant is on a mission to search for a lifeless planet for testing of the Genesis Device, a torpedo that reorganizes matter to create habitable worlds for colonization but can also destroy planets. Reliant officers Commander Pavel Chekov and Captain Clark Terrell beam down to the surface of a possible candidate planet, Ceti Alpha VI, where they are captured by genetically engineered tyrant Khan Noonien Singh. The Enterprise discovered Khan's ship adrift in space fifteen years previously; Kirk exiled Khan and his fellow supermen from 20th century Earth to Ceti Alpha V. Khan reveals that after they were marooned, Ceti Alpha VI exploded, destroying Ceti Alpha V's ecosystem and shifting its orbit. Khan blames Kirk for the death of his wife and plans to avenge her. He implants Chekov and Terrell with indigenous, mind-controlling eels that enter the ears of their victims and uses the officers to gain control of the Reliant. Learning of Genesis, Khan attacks Space Station Regula I where the device is being developed by Kirk's former lover, Dr. Carol Marcus, and their son, David.

The Enterprise embarks on a training voyage under the command of Spock. Kirk takes command of the Enterprise after the ship receives a distress call from Regula I. En route, the Enterprise is ambushed by the Reliant. The attack cripples the Enterprise and many of its trainees are killed. A transmission between the two ships reveals Khan knows of the Genesis Device and wants all materials related to the project sent to him. Kirk stalls for time and uses Reliant's security codes to remotely shut down their shields, allowing the Enterprise to counter-attack. Khan is forced to retreat and effect repairs, while the Enterprise limps to Regula I. Kirk, McCoy and Saavik beam to the station where they find Terrell and Chekov along with slaughtered members of the Genesis Project. The team finds the remaining scientists, including Carol and David, hidden deep inside the planetoid of Regula. Using Terrell and Chekov as spies, Khan steals the Genesis Device and orders them to kill Kirk; Terrell resists the eel's influence and kills himself while Chekov faints. Though Khan believes his foe stranded on Regula I, Kirk and Spock use a coded message to arrange a rendezvous. Kirk then directs the Enterprise into the nearby Mutara Nebula; static discharges from the nebula render both ships' defensive shields useless and compromise targeting systems, making the Enterprise and Reliant evenly matched. Kirk exploits Khan's inexperience in space combat to critically disable the Reliant.

Mortally wounded, Khan activates the Genesis Device, which will reorganize all matter in the nebula including the Enterprise. Though Kirk's crew detects the activation of the Genesis Device and the Enterprise attempts to move out of range using impulse engines, with the warp drive damaged they will not be able to escape the nebula in time. Spock leaves the bridge and goes to the engine room to restore the warp drive. When McCoy tries to prevent Spock's exposure to high levels of radiation, he incapacitates the doctor and performs a mind meld, telling him to "Remember". Spock restores power to the warp drive and the Enterprise escapes the explosion. Kirk arrives in the engine room, where Spock dies of radiation poisoning. The explosion of the Genesis Device causes a planet to coalesce out of the nebula. A space burial is held in the Enterprise's torpedo room and Spock's coffin is shot into orbit around the newly formed planet. The crew leaves the planet to pick up the Reliant's marooned crew from Ceti Alpha V. In the final scene Spock's coffin is seen to have soft-landed on the planet. Spock narrates Star Trek's "Where no man has gone before" monologue as the view moves forward into a field of stars.

This is not a too exciting movie for me as i watch Mel Gibson & Helen Hunt's version before in 2000. After 11 years, China decided to have their own version which i think it might be a new things for them, but not for a movie freak like me :)

Andy Lau look so skinny in the movie which indirectly cause the voluptuous Gong Li to look a bit fat standing beside him~

Saw 2

Released Year: 2005
Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman

Casted by:
Donnie Wahlberg as Eric Matthews
Tobin Bell as Jigsaw/John
Shawnee Smith as Amanda
Eric Knudsen as Daniel Matthews
Franky G as Xavier
Emmanuelle Vauggier as Addison
Story:
Michael, a police informant, awakens to find two halves of a spike-filled mask locked around his neck. A videotape informs him that the he must use a scalpel to retrieve the key to his trap behind his right eye; he fails to do so and the mask closes around his head. Detective Eric Matthews is called to the scene after a message for him is found. Later, he follows a SWAT team led by Officer Rigg and Detective Kerry to an abandoned steel factory, where they find John Kramer, weakened by cancer. Computer monitors show that eight people are trapped in a large house: among them are Daniel Matthews, his son, and Amanda, Jigsaw's only known survivor. The victims have two hours before the nerve agent filling the house kills them, but John promises Matthews that he will find his son safely if he talks with John for a while, which Matthews reluctantly agrees to in order to buy time for the tech team.

The eight victims are told that antidotes can be found around the house to save them from the gas. Gus is shot dead by a booby-trapped door via a gun through the eye-hole. The search continues to the basement, where the group learns that one of them, Obi, was an accessory to the kidnappings; he had kidnapped Laura. Obi is burned alive when he accidentally activates a furnace trap while attempting to retrieve two antidotes. Jonas then leads them to a door, which Xavier and Addison are attempting to break through. In the room is a pit filled with thousands of needles and syringes; a key to an antidote is hidden within. The trap is intended for Xavier, but he throws Amanda into the pit instead; she retrieves the key, but Xavier fails to unlock the door in time. Frustrated with the group's lack of success, he abandons the others.

Meanwhile, John makes seemingly idle conversation with Matthews, eventually explaining his story. When the tech team arrives, John further reveals to Matthews that the seven victims aside from Daniel are criminals that Matthews himself framed for various crimes; should Daniel's identity be discovered, he will be in great danger.

Xavier returns to the first room, which contains a safe housing an antidote, and discovers a colored number on Gus's neck; he connects this to their first clue and realizes that one colored number is on the neck of each victim. He subsequently kills Jonas, then begins searching for the other victims. In another area of the house, Laura finally succumbs to the nerve agent and Amanda and Addison learn of Daniel's identity. They both abandon him, but Amanda quickly returns when she discovers Xavier advancing on them. Meanwhile, Addison finds an antidote in a glass box with arm sockets lined with razor blades, which her wrists get trapped in; Xavier finds her, reads her number and leaves her to die. Daniel and Amanda retreat to the first room, where they discover an underground tunnel that leads to the bathroom of the first film. Daniel collapses upon entering. When Xavier arrives, Amanda points out that he cannot read his own number; he cuts off a piece of skin from the back of his neck, then advances on the two, upon which Daniel attacks and slits his neck with a hacksaw, having only feigned collapse.

After seeing Xavier chase Daniel and Amanda, Matthews forces John to take him to the house at gunpoint. The section that John was sitting in is revealed to be a lift, allowing him and Matthews to escape. Simultaneously, the SWAT team follows the signal of the video feed to another house, which contains VCRs playing back previously recorded images of the eight victims; Kerry realizes that the events of the house took place before the factory raid. Matthews enters the house and eventually reaches the bathroom, where he is attacked by a pig-masked figure. The two-hour timer expires in John's lair and a large safe opens, revealing Daniel breathing into an oxygen mask. Upon awakening, Matthews finds himself chained by the ankle to the pipes; a tape recorder left by Amanda reveals that she is John's protegé. She appears in the doorway and seals the door to the bathroom, leaving Matthews to die.
L² Scored: 8/10

L² Comment:
The second movie of Saw series is definitely much more better than the first one. More victim involve but the gruesome level is not as good as the first movie. I specially love the part when at the end they found out the whole cctv things is just a pre-record video, which i find it is amazing of this idea... And Amanda strike back to do the stuff for is Jigsaw is also unpredictable~

Hopefully i managed to finish all these before the 3D version come on the big screen soon :)

Mandy Moore as Rapunzel
Zachary Levi as Eugene Fitzherbert/Flynn Rider
Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel
Story:
A drop of sunlight falls to the ground and grows into a magical flower with the power to heal the sick and injured. An old woman named Gothel finds it and uses it to keep herself young by singing an incantation. Centuries later, the Queen becomes ill during childbirth, and so the flower is found. She is healed and gives birth to a daughter whom they name Rapunzel, whose golden hair is now the source of the magical power. Gothel kidnaps Rapunzel and hides her in a tall tower, raising her as her own child. Gothel knows that if Rapunzel's hair is cut, it will turn brown and lose its magic, so Rapunzel's hair is left to grow. Every year on Rapunzel's birthday, her kingdom releases thousands of sky lanterns in hopes that the lost princess will return. On the eve of her eighteenth birthday, Rapunzel asks Gothel to let her see the floating lights, but Gothel refuses.

Meanwhile, a group of thieves led by charismatic Flynn Rider steal the tiara of the lost princess from the castle. During the ensuing chase, a horse named Maximus is separated from his rider, the Captain of the Guards, and continues the search for Flynn on his own. Flynn outwits his accomplices and takes the tiara; he abandons them and stumbles upon Rapunzel's tower. Once inside the tower, Flynn is knocked unconscious by Rapunzel with a frying pan. She hides Flynn inside her closet and confiscates the tiara. When Gothel returns, Rapunzel requests a special paint made from some white shells on a beach, three days away, as a birthday present. Gothel leaves for a three-day journey to bring the gift. Rapunzel makes a deal with Flynn: a journey to the "lights" in exchange for the tiara. Flynn attempts to make Rapunzel end their journey by taking her to the Snuggly Duckling, which is full of Gaul thugs, but the thugs are charmed by Rapunzel, who encourages them to follow their dreams.

Mother Gothel sees Maximus riderless and worries someone will find Rapunzel. She returns to the tower to find Rapunzel gone. Meanwhile, the guards invade the tavern, but Rapunzel and Flynn have escaped. The pursuit ends at a dam, which Maximus causes to collapse. Flynn and Rapunzel are trapped in a flooding cave. Believing he's about to die, Flynn admits his true name: Eugene Fitzherbert. Rapunzel admits she has magic hair that glows when she sings. Using her power, they find a way out. Later, when Flynn goes to gather firewood, Gothel secretly meets Rapunzel. Gothel tells Rapunzel that Flynn doesn't care for her and merely wants the tiara. Gothel gives Rapunzel the tiara insists that she test Flynn by giving it to him.

The next morning, Maximus confronts Flynn, but to Flynn's dismay Rapunzel befriends the horse. The three arrive at the kingdom and that night Flynn takes Rapunzel to see the lanterns. There, Rapunzel gives Flynn back the tiara. Flynn spies the Stabbington brothers and leaves Rapunzel waiting as he gives them the tiara back. However, the brothers tie him on a boat and sail him across the lake. They reveal Flynn's "betrayal" to Rapunzel as they attempt to kidnap her for her hair's power, but Gothel "rescues" her and they return to the tower. Later, Flynn is arrested and sentenced to death. Gothel tries to use Rapunzel's hair but Rapunzel refuses. Maximus brings the Pub Thugs to rescue Flynn, and Maximus and Flynn race back to the tower. From various clues she found during her adventure, Rapunzel realizes she is the lost princess and attempts to flee the tower. Gothel binds her, and when Flynn arrives, Gothel stabs him. Rapunzel swears to keep fighting Gothel unless she is allowed to heal Eugene's wound. Knowing that Rapunzel keeps her word, Gothel agrees, but before Rapunzel heals him, Flynn cuts her hair with a shard of broken mirror. Rapunzel's hair turns brown and loses its power and Gothel rapidly begins to age. Disoriented, Gothel trips and falls from the tower, turning into dust before she hits the ground.

Flynn slowly dies in Rapunzel's arms. Heartbroken, she cries, and tearfully sings the incantation. One teardrop filled with her power lands on his cheek and revives him. The two embrace and kiss. Back at the kingdom, the royal family has a tearful reunion. Years later, Flynn and Rapunzel are married. Along the way, the Gaul thugs fulfill their individual dreams, and Maximus becomes a respected official on the Royal Guard.

The Untold Story 八仙飯店之人肉叉燒飽

Released Year: 1993
Directed by 邱礼涛 Herman Chow

Casted by:
黃秋生 Anthony Wong as 王志恆/ 陳子良 Hang
李修賢 Danny Lee as 李Sir Lee
關寶慧 Emily Kwan as 小寶 Bao
劉兆銘 Liu Zhao Min as 鄭臨 Lam
成奎安 Sing Kwai An as 鄭鉢 Buu
李華月 Julie Lee as 會計小姐 Receptionist
Story:
The story opens with Wong Chi Hang fleeing the Hong Kong police, who are after him for murder. He winds up in Macau, where he takes a job as a cook at the 8 Immortals restaurant. After getting busted for cheating at a game of Mah Jong, Wong kills the owner and the family, taking over the restaurant himself. Meanwhile, the police, led by Officer Lee are called out to a local beach. It seems that a bag of decomposing body parts has washed ashore.

The police begin to suspect Wong has both something to do with the washed up body parts and the disappearance of the family. Wong continues to gleefully murder any of his employees who suspect what might be going on . . . disposing of their bodies in a most interesting way. Wong is captured near the middle of the film and placed in jail.

The cops need a confession, so they place him in a cell with a relative of one of his victims in the hopes that he can beat it out of Wong. The prison scenes are just as disturbing as the murders that have occurred earlier in the film - perhaps more so. What makes them truly unsettling is not merely the violence, but the fact that the viewer begins to sympathize with Wong. It's hard to watch him suffer at the hands of the police and the felons around him and not feel some kind of empathy, despite the fact that he's a brutal murderer . . . and therein lies the true strength of this film.
L² Scored: 7/10

L² Comment:
This movie is based on a true story which happen in Macau during 1985. The whole movie is very violence and bloody~ Anthony Wong definitely did a great job for bringing this psycho character out from the movie, therefore this has won him the best actor in the Hong Kong Film Awards.

The pace is not bad, except the part when the police try to solve the case, it looks dumb actually. And the way they torture the suspect is really over too, whether its true or not... it's indirectly warn us not to do bad things and go inside jail... lol~ They have film total of 3 movies from this... i'm so gonna search for the other 2...
