Story:
The movie opens with a shot of downtown Los Angeles at night; several streams of blue light descend from the skies, waking Elaine and Jarrod. The film cuts back 15 hours prior to show Elaine and Jarrod on their flight to L.A.; the two arrive at the apartment of Jarrod's best friend Terry, who is a successful special effects producer. Terry boasts of his luxurious life in the penthouse with a "starter" yacht. The group begins to celebrate Terry's birthday with his girlfriend Candice and his secretary Denise.

Later that night, one of Terry's employees, Ray, welcomes Jarrod to L.A., thinking he has moved there to join Terry's company. Jarrod and Elaine are stunned by the news. During a private argument about whether or not they should move to L.A., Elaine reveals that she is pregnant. Their conversation is interrupted by Terry and Denise, who have been hooking up in the bathroom.

After the party everyone falls asleep. When Jarrod is awakened by blue lights, he walks out to the living room to find Denise screaming about how Ray has just disappeared. When Jarrod looks directly at the light he is entranced by it, and the light not only makes his eyes opaque but burns some of the blood vessels in his body. Jarrod starts to walk toward the source of the light but is tackled by Terry before he suffers the same fate as Ray.

Jarrod recovers from the wounds of the light and appears to be normal; he and Terry then decide to investigate the light and the UFOs generating it from the roof of the high-rise. From the roof, they see several alien ships descend over the blue lights and vacuum-up thousands of humans. Horrified, they run back downstairs and inform their group, which argues about what they should do. Everyone but Elaine wants to flee to Terry's boat. On the roof, Jarrod has noticed that the water seems to be free of spacecraft and he argues that it would be safe, eventually overruling Elaine. Terry splits off from the group to fetch his elderly neighbor and friend, Walt, but before Terry can convince Walt to leave with him, they are attacked by an alien through the balcony door of Walt's apartment. Walt is captured, but Terry manages to escape.

Once Terry returns, the group heads down to the underground parking garage of the high-rise. Due to tension that arose between Terry and Candice (Candice discovered that Terry had been cheating on her with Denise), the group splits up into two cars: Terry and Denise in one and Candice, Jarrod, and Elaine in the other. Before they begin to drive off, they run across a couple, Colin and Jen, also attempting to flee the building. When Jarrod offers them help, Colin refuses. Just as the group exits the garage, a massive "tanker" alien stomps on Terry's Ferrari, killing Denise and tossing Terry from the car. Jarrod tries to save Terry from being captured by the tanker, but fails. As the remaining survivors flee back into the garage, they encounter another alien. In her panic to get away from the alien, Candice ends up crashing her own car, forcing the group to flee on foot. The alien captures Colin and has the rest of the group cornered when the concierge Oliver slams into it with an Escalade, appearing to kill the alien.

The group then discovers that Colin is still alive, but as they try to free him, the alien wakes up, sucks out Colin's brain, and inserts his brain into its head, replacing its old one that was damaged by the hit. Colin's brain fully revives the alien, almost as if it functioned like a battery. The group then retreats across the courtyard back into the building with the tanker in pursuit. Jen is captured, but the rest of the group manages to flee back into Terry's penthouse where they hole up once more. Jarrod becomes convinced that they must try again to escape the city, while Oliver is insistent that they stay put in the penthouse. The Air Force launches a drone attack on the spaceships, nuking the biggest one. The bomb seems to work, causing the ship to collapse. However, the aliens are not dead, and the ship starts to rebuild itself. Eventually, the suite loses electricity and running water, and with the threat of radiation poisoning from the nuclear fallout, Jarrod becomes adamant that they must seek safety elsewhere before it's too late. Oliver tries to restrain him, but Jarrod's eyes turn opaque and his veins start to burn again as they did when he was exposed to the light. He overpowers Oliver and swears that nothing will stop him from protecting his family.

An army helicopter lands on the roof, dropping off two snipers with .50 caliber rifles. Jarrod and Elaine go to the roof hoping to ride the next helicopter to safety, while Oliver and Candice elect to stay behind and continue hiding in Terry's penthouse. The battle with the aliens continues around Jarrod and Elaine on the roof. In the penthouse, Candice is abducted off the balcony by an alien, which is then hit by an RPG moments after it consumes her, presumably killing both the alien and Candice. Afterward, Oliver realizes that he, too, will not survive and turns on the gas from the apartment's range; when a tanker comes after him he ignites a cigarette lighter, blowing up both himself and the alien.

Back on the roof, Jarrod and Elaine do battle with another alien. They manage to kill it, but Jarrod is seriously injured in the fight. The couple then realizes that they are trapped and resign themselves to their fate; together, they both look into the blue light of an alien ship and embrace as they are abducted. It is then revealed that the entire planet is being decimated by these aliens. Onboard the alien spacecraft Elaine helplessly watches as Jarrod's brain is removed from his body; she is spared this fate when the alien sorter realizes that she is pregnant. Elaine is then transported to another chamber where she is prepped for the aliens to steal the fetus from her womb. When Jarrod's brain is inserted into an alien body, the alien possessing it is overwhelmed by his memories because Jarrod's brain had been exposed to the aliens' toxin enough to be resistant to it. Recognizing Elaine, the alien controlled by Jarrod's persona rescues her from the other aliens. The movie ends with "Jarrod" appearing to be ready to protect Elaine and Jarrod's unborn child.

Was having such a fun outing with all my fellas friends to enjoy this movie. A really good one i should say, an alien film which i think is better than "war of the world" :) Eric Balfour is definitely super duper hot. I would love to watch all his old film if i got the chance... hehehe
