Story:

12-year-old Dre Parker and his mother, Sherry move to Beijing from West Detroit after she gets a transfer in her car factory job. Dre develops a crush on a young violinist, Mei Ying, who reciprocates his attention, but Cheng, a kung fu prodigy whose family is close to Mei Ying's, attempts to keep them apart by beating Dre, and later proceeds to bully him in and around school. After a field trip to the Forbidden City, Dre encounters Cheng and his friends hanging out close to his apartment. Dre tries to pass by without them seeing him. When he finds a bucket of polluted water, Dre gets revenge by splashing the water around Cheng and his friends. Cheng and the others pursue and catch Dre, beating him. During the brutal attack, the enigmatic maintenance man of Dre's building, Mr. Han, comes to Dre's aid, revealing himself as a kung fu master who dispatches Dre's tormentors.

After Han mends Dre's injuries using fire cupping, Dre asks if Mr. Han could teach him Kung-Fu. Han refuses, but decides to meet Cheng's teacher, Master Li, to make peace. Li, who teaches his students to show no mercy to their enemies, challenges Dre to a fight with Cheng. When Han declines, Li says they will not be allowed to leave his school unless Dre or Han fights. Han acquiesces, but insists the fight take place at an upcoming tournament, and that Li's students leave Dre alone until the tournament. Li agrees, but tells Han that if Dre does not show up during the tournament he will personally bring pain to Han and Dre.

Dre is shocked when Han tells him that he will fight in a kung fu tournament. Han promises to teach Dre real kung fu. Han begins training Dre, but Dre is frustrated that Han merely has Dre spend hours taking off his jacket, hanging it up, dropping it, and then putting it back on again. After days of this, Dre refuses to continue until Han demonstrates that the repetitive arm movements were Han's method of teaching Dre martial arts techniques, which Dre displays instinctively when prompted by Han's mock attacks. Han emphasizes that the movements Dre is learning apply to life in general, and that serenity and maturity, not punches and power, are the true keys to mastering the martial arts. During one lesson in the Wudang Mountains, Dre notices a female kung fu practitioner apparently copying the movements of a cobra before her, but Han informs him that it was the cobra that was imitating the woman, as in a mirror reflection. Dre wants Han to teach him this technique, which includes linking Han's hand and feet to Dre's via bamboo shafts while practicing their forms, but Dre's subsequent attempt to use this reflection technique on his Mom is unsuccessful.

As Dre's friendship with Mei Ying continues, Dre persuades Mei Ying to cut school for a day of fun, but when she is nearly late for her violin recital her parents deem him a bad influence and forbid her from spending more time with him. When Dre finds Han drunk,despondent and breaking the car he had in his living room, Dre learns that it is the anniversary of Han's wife and son's deaths, which occurred when he lost control of the car due to anger caused from an argument he was having with his wife. Dre reminds Han that one of his lessons was in perseverance, and that Han needs to heal from his loss. Han assists Dre in reading a note of apology to Mei Ying's father in Chinese; he accepts and promises that he and Mei will attend the tournament to support Dre.

At the tournament, the under-confident Dre is slow to achieve parity with his opponents, but soon begins beating them and advances to the semifinals, as does Cheng, who violently finishes off his opponents. Dre comes up against Liang, another of Li's students, who is instructed by Li to injure Dre's leg. When Liang insists that he can beat Dre, Li sternly tells him that he does not want him beaten, but broken. Although Liang is disqualified for his illegal strikes, Dre is incapacitated.

Despite Han's insistence that he has earned respect for his performance in the tournament, Dre convinces Han to mend his leg by using fire cupping in order to continue the tournament. Dre returns to the arena, facing Cheng. Dre delivers impressive blows, but Cheng counters with a strike to Dre's injured leg. Dre struggles to get up, and attempts the reflection technique to manipulate Cheng's movements. Cheng charges Dre, but Dre flips and catches Cheng with a kick to his head, winning the tournament along with the respect of Cheng and his classmates. After this, Cheng awards Dre the trophy, instead of the presenter, with a smile which signifies to Dre that he need not be scared anymore.The movie ends with Dre and Han doing the handshake. While Dre is on Mr Han they slowly walk out of the ring.

L² Comment:

Love this movie so much, love the way they bring in our Chinese martial arts into the US once again, even though a lot of movies do so. Jackie Chan will be the suitable one to do so coz he's the bling bling spotlight from Asia entertainment industry which he also has earn his fame in hollywood before.

Story:

In 1976 Tangshan, Yuan Ni lives in a small apartment with her husband and their twins Fang Deng and Fang Da. Yuan Ni expresses to her husband her desire to have one more child, and they get into the back of their truck after putting their son and daughter to bed. Suddenly the ground shakes, and buildings begin tumbling down. Running back to save their kids, Yuan Ni is pulled back by her husband, who runs ahead of her and is instantly crushed. Their house falls down, trapping her two children.

In the aftermath of the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, a rescue team informs Yuan Ni that her twins Da and Deng are trapped together under a slab of concrete. Lifting the slab in any way will kill one of her children - lifting it one way will save the daughter at the expense of her son; lifting it the other will save the son at the expense of her daughter. Heartbroken, she is forced to choose between her children, and finally decides to save the boy. Her decision, however, is overheard by her daughter, who tearfully whispers "Ma..." as the screen goes black. The mother clings to her daughter's body before being pulled away to take care of Da, "her one child who still lives." Later, Deng wakes up in a sea of bodies, next to the body of her deceased father.

Assumed to be an orphan by the soldiers who found her in the camp, Deng is adopted by a military couple. She refuses to speak, and claims not to have remembered anything before the earthquake. She eventually opens up and bonds with her adopted parents. Ten years later, Deng is accepted into medical school and moves away, where she meets a graduate student and begins an intimate relationship with him. In her third year of study, Deng's adopted mother falls ill. Before dying, she asks Deng to use the money they saved up for her to find Deng's real family. Deng doesn't respond. After getting back from the hospital, Deng finds out she is pregnant, and despite being pressured by her boyfriend to get an abortion, she refuses to abandon her baby the way her mother abandoned her. She secretly drops out of university and loses contact with her boyfriend and her adopted father.

During that period of time, Da grows up with his mother, who is still torn from the decision she had to make. The earthquake claimed Da's left arm, leaving him physically disabled. Rather than taking his university entrance exams, Da opts to make it on his own by transporting people with his bike. He leaves his mother in Tangshan and eventually becomes the boss of a successful travel agency. He marries and has a son, named Dian Dian.

After a four-year absence, Deng goes back to see her adopted father with her daughter, also named Dian Dian. She apologises and makes up with her father, finally admitting that she remembers everything that happened during the earthquake. She tells him about her mother's decision, and says that she will never forget how she was abandoned. Then on New Year's Eve, Deng tells her adopted father that she is getting married to a foreigner, who is 16 years older than she is and emigrated to Vancouver, Canada with her daughter.

In 2008, Deng sees the earthquake in Sichuan on TV. She immediately volunteers to join rescuers in the wake of the Sichuan earthquake and returns to China. Unknowingly, at the same time, her long-lost brother has also decided to help volunteer in the rescue efforts. While taking a break, the sister overhears a stranger (her brother) talking about his past experiences in the Tangshan earthquake, and quickly realizes that it is her brother. It is assumed that she reunites herself with her brother, and they both decide to visit their mother. At first Deng is angry at her mother for abandoning her, and thinks that her mother hated her and that is why she chose her brother over her, but after all three of them went to visit their father's grave and her grave (she was assumed to be dead), she realized that despite her being "dead", her mother had been buying two sets of all the school workbooks; one for her brother and one for her. At this point, she realized the remorse, emotional agony and guilt that her mother had gone through for the past 32 years and finally she forgives her mother. The family is reunited after 32 years of separation.

The screen then cuts to a stone memorial in Tangshan. Carved into the stone are the names of all 240,000 victims of the earthquake. A single elderly man is seen looking up at a name, then biking away. During all this, the subtitles reveal that this man had been visiting this memorial every year. He had lost all of his family in the earthquake. Of the five people, he was the only survivor. The camera follows him, as he rides past walls and walls of names all carved in with gold lettering

L² Comment:

A bravo to Feng Xiao Gang who directed this awesome movie. A movie which include history, disaster and love. The first half an hour is the best of the movie, though the following part is more about the life which the survivor been through aftershock, but it is still well presented.

Love the part when Fang Deng hug a mother to prevent her running to get her daughter's own leg. Very touching and i almost feel the urge to tear~ lol... well, this is a good film which u should never miss in ur lifetime :)

Story:

In the year of 2080, Hao & Li are super cops who protect the Professor Ma who has contributed a lot to the solaris society. But Professor Ma has caused a lot of the gangster to loosed their business, in such, Lung brought his team including Fina (all of them are cyber enemy) to kill Professor Ma. During a fight, Li sacrificed and leave her husband, Hao & their daughter, Kiki.

Lung decided to go back to the past to kill the young professor, so Hao let the scientists to transfer him into a cyborg and brought Kiki along back to the past to protect Professor Ma. But in 2020 year, Hao did not managed to find Professor Ma. Hao met Xue in the arm forces and Xue has fall in love with Hao. Hao did not want to get into any relationship with Xue as he will leave her one day after he accomplished his duty.

Xiang, one of the arm force, save a mother and son. Xiang also marry the mother and the son change his surname to Ma. In such, Hao discovered the son is the young professor Ma. Lung arrived with Fina and they attacked and try to kill the young professor Ma. Hao transfer into the steel future cop and managed to defeat them. Later on, Hao brought Kiki along and both of them return back to 2080, leaving Xue behind.

This future cops film is kinda cybortic feel, feel like transformer + x man :) I would love it more if they use more HK movie star. Not really prefer too many China actors and actresses. :P

Story:

In the legend, some said if you can have the whole corpse of a wushu senior dead body, you will able to learn his kungfu and become the best of the best. In the dark side, a group of people lead by LunZhuan is called Black Stone. They decided to get the corpse, which is with Feng's family. Drizzle and Lei & Sheng killed all Feng's family just to get the corpse. But after Drizzle get it, she flee away.

A monk used his life to advise Drizzle about what's right and wrong. Drizzle bored of her life and went for a plastic surgery to change her face. Drizzle name herself Jing and stay in a small village. She met a guy name Jiang who has feeling for her. Both of them quickly fall in love with each other and Jiang marry Jing and both of them stay in the village happily. Until one incident, Jing forced to use her kungfu to save her husband and she was tracked down by the Black Stone.

To replace Drizzle, LunZhuan get a lusty bitch Qing and taught her kungfu. Together with Qing, Lei & Sheng, they went to look for Jing. A fight has make Sheng wanted to get the corpse for himself to heal the wounds. After a terrible fight, LunZhuan killed Sheng. Lei was also wounded seriously and went home before he died.

Qing accused LunZhuan the real reason of getting the corpse. And it seems like LunZhuan is an eunuch and hope the new kungfu can help him to grow back his manhood. Qing decided to leave and pissed off LunZhuan, finally she was killed too.

LunZhuan told Jiang about Jing real background, and surprisingly Jiang was Feng. He was not died in that slaughtering and managed to change a new face for a new life. The two couple fought, Jing used medicine to fake Jiang's death. Jing faced LunZhuan by herself and manage to tackle him down while she too badly hurt. On the next day, Jiang managed to get away the drowsiness of the medicine and save Jing who's almost died.

This was not my first choise in the cinema during that night, but wow, luckily me and my friends went for it instead :) A movie which not to be missed in this year. Splendid martial kungfu fighting wushu film which took your breath away.

Michelle Yeoh looks so young in this film, definitely have to thanks to the magical make up :) Still love her but kinda weird when its not her original voice in the movie. Barbie definitely show all of us how a bitch should be :) hehe, not bad though, but i believe it will be better if her sister is taking this part~

The whole movie is nice, storyline is good, a bit predictable in the end but still manage to stunt u with all the actions they have in the fighting.

Story:

Weather in this earth started to get worst, everywhere is so hot. Under the hot weather, hot and spicy love/relationships happened. In HongKong, Wai is a mechanic and he loves riding. One day he met DingDong who helps everybody but herself has been attack by cancer.

Wah, a driver who wrongly send a sms to Yan in Shenzhen. Both of them lie to each other. Wah said that he's a Ferrari racer while Yan said she's a pianist. Under the arrangement of Wah's daughter, Wah bought Yan an airconditioner and both of them realize the truth behind. Feeling good of each other, they fall in love.

Wasabi falled in love with a sushi master, and decided to make this cool man laugh. But she was rejected, feeling angry, she decided to only see him after he called and make the numbers enough for a love. The sushi master met a crying woman (maggie cheung) in his shop and realize what love should be. He decided to make a special meal for Wasabi according to her recipe. She came and both of them get together.

20 years ago, Fang make a bet with his boss that he will tackled the beautiful Kei. Kei said that if Fang managed to stand and wait for her under the hot sun for 100 days, she will become his girlfriend. But one day, Fang saw a rich man went after her and gave up. Kei chased him till train station, but Fang never appeared.

20 years later, now, Fang's son Fu, the assistant of a photographer Leslie, falled in love with a supermodel Yuan that once has been humiliated by Leslie as not a potential model. And at the night when DingDong almost died, Wai fetched her out in his motorcycle and never stop down again as all the lights in Hong Kong city deemed down.

2010 valentines has came out with 2 love movie casted multiple celebrities, Hot Summer Days & Valentines from US. But quite yawning at this HK movie. First of all, the language that they speak, cantonese and mandarin has been mixed up like rojak.

The only part that i like would be the love story between Jacky Cheung and Rene Liu, the rest will be quite ok only. And oh, Angelababy's look in this film, i really 接受不到咯 ...

Little Big Soldier 大兵小將

Story:

City Wei is going to attack City Leong soon, during their war there, The Wei General was betrayed by his own brother, Prince Wen. Wei General lost his gang of armies and was caught by a Leong's small army. During their way to City Leong, they met the Lady who sing and drug them. She got their horse and money away.

The small army continue to bring the general on their journey, they get to know each others. But in the meanwhile, Prince Wen came along to hunt the General down so that he can become the emperor in city Wei. But Prince Wen and his sidekicks met the barbarian and get involved into a fight with them.

The general has been escape a few time but in the end, he decided to follow the army back to City Leong because he know that Prince Wen is betraying their brotherhood. But the two of them were captured by the barbarian. Prince Wen decided to safe him in the end but this pissed off the barbarian and they began to fight. During the fight, Prince Wen kill the barbarian princess. This really make the barbarian angry and they killed all the Prince Wen sidekick.

In the end, Prince Wen sacrifice himself to save the general and ask the general to become the emperor for Wei. But the small army still captured the injured general and brought him to Leong. But before they reach, the army make an agreement with the general to free the Leong from war if the general become the emperor.

The general promise and was set back to his own city. But Leong was taken by Qin City. The small army was killed and died. In the real history, the general become the emperor of Wei and agree to surrender to Qin emperor to prevent from war.

Google from wiki, i realized that the original cast is supposed to be Daniel Wu. but later on Jackie Chan noticed that he has been filming 2 movies with Daniel before so he was going to look for some new faces in his film. His wife actually suggested their son Jaycee but was quickly turn down by Jackie. Then only LeeHom came into the picture.

I think this is quite an interesting movie, not much about fancy story line. But the part which touch me a lot is when Jackie realize his own country has been defeated. You can see the sadness and disappointment from his eyes. Bravo Jackie, i never know he can do this... i mean... he's not really those emotion-kind-of-actor right? Beside all his kunfu-martial thingy.

14 Blades 錦衣衛

Story:

Qing Long belongs to the Jin Yi Wei which is a secret guard in the Dynasty Ming. In the period which the lead eunuchs Jing Zhong tried to control the dynasty for Prince Qing to take over the emperor's place. Jing Zhong get Xuan Wu to be at his side and try to dissolve the Jin Yi Wei from protecting the emperor. Xuan Wu betrayed his gang and killed Zhu Que and Bai Hu. Jing Zhong even try to kill the Imperial Councilor Zhao Shen Yang.

Qing Long managed to escape himself and get himself covered in the Eagles Gang which lead by Qiao Yong. Qiao Yong received the premium and promised to send Qing Long out from danger in the pretending of Qiao Hua's marriage. In the journey, Prince Qing's god-daughter Tuo Tuo appeared and attack. The judge of sands appear and help to protect Qing Long but was killed by Tuo Tuo.

Qiao Hua has falled for Qing Long and try to be with him. But Qing Long wanna take revenge for his Jin Yi Wei fellow and get away to find Xuan Wu. In another hand, Xuan Wu betrayed Jing Zhong and straight ahead work under Prince Qing. Qing Long appeared and defeat Xuan Wu. Qing Long send Qiao Hua away and stay to fight against Tuo Tuo.

Tuo Tuo is an experienced killer and managed to beat Qing Long like hell. But in the end, Qing Long sacrificed himself and killed Tuo Tuo with himself. In final, Qiao Hua spends her whole life as the lead of Eagles Gang.

The movie is not bad, story line is kinda strong and the actors and actresses are good. Donnie and Wu Chun is definitely hot but Qi Yu Wu the singaporean actor doesn't really have the chance to shine. Kate Tsui definitely over shine Vicki Zhao with her boodylicious :)
